By now everyone has no doubt heard of the tragic and avoidable death of Trayvon Martin at the hands of George Zimmerman in the Retreat at Twin Lakes, a gated community of townhouses in Sanford, Florida. Zimmerman, 28, claims that he shot Martin in self defense after being sucker-punched and repeatedly pummeled in the face by the younger but considerably taller and more athletic 17 year-old. Zimmerman's consistent statements after the shooting, multiple eyewitness accounts supporting his story, the injuries he sustained during the beating (or "scuffle" as it is described by the MSM), the lack of injuries to Martin (other than the gunshot wound that resulted in his death, and an abrasion to the knuckle of his left 4th finger), and his willingness to take (and pass) a lie-detector test initially convinced prosecutors that criminal charges against Zimmerman were unwarranted. One Sanford police officer opined that a charge of manslaughter might be in order, but (for reasons that will be made clear later), his opinion may have been tainted by a personal vendetta. Only after a massive media blitz, spearheaded by attorney Benjamin Crump and the usual cast of race-baiting media whores, was a special prosecutor appointed, who like a puppet whose strings are being held by Team Trayvon (TM) , indicted Zimmerman on what most observers are calling an overreaching charge of second degree murder.
In Florida, Second Degree murder "occurs when a person is killed, without any premeditated design, by an act imminently dangerous to another and evincing a depraved mind showing no regard for human life". Therefore it is in the interest of Team Trayvon (TM) to portray Zimmerman as a racist, racism being evidence of "a depraved mind". Painting him as a racist is also necessary in order to show that Zimmerman "profiled" Martin because he was black for the civil rights "hate crime" prosecution and civil suits that are sure to come once the criminal case against Zimmerman is over.
What evidence, other than the incident itself, does Team Trayvon (TM) have to support the notion that Zimmerman, who had a black great-grandfather, is actually racist? An anonymous phone call received by the Sanford police 2 days after the shooting stating that Zimmerman and his whole family are racist, a factually incorrect statement by the same Sanford Police officer who recommended a charge of manslaughter that all of Zimmerman's prior calls to police were to report "black males", and a Middle Eastern coworker of who said Zimmerman teased him.
The most damning evidence of Zimmerman's alleged racism is the numerous phone calls he made to Sanford Police over the years prior to the shooting. It has been reported in the media that every single one of Zimmerman's "dozens of" calls to police since 2004 were about black males. A Sanford Police officer stated in his report that "all of Zimmerman's suspicious persons calls while residing in the Retreat have identified black males as the subjects". My own review of the call logs reveals that Zimmerman made 46 calls to the Sanford PD between 2004 and the shooting, and exactly 5 of them mentioned black males. I want to make that last point clear. A Sanford PD investigator lied in his sworn statement in a way that supports his own contention that George Zimmerman should have been charged with manslaughter.
Two of the calls cited by that Sanford police investigator were in response to a home invasion that occurred on August 3, 2011. Two black males repeatedly knocked on the door of Olivia Bertalan, a young mother who was home with her infant son while her husband was at work. She grabbed her son and ran up the stairs, locking herself in a bedroom as the men entered her house through a sliding glass door. Terrified, she called 911, but by the time police arrived, the men were fleeing. Zimmerman's wife saw one of the men running through the shared backyard, and called police. George, whose wife was home alone most days, became rightly concerned, and started to organize a neighborhood watch, to protect himself, his wife, and the other residents of the Retreat, 20% of whom are black.
In all, there were at least 8 burglaries in the Retreat in the 14 months prior to the Trayvon Martin shooting. In July, 2011 neighbors reported a black male stole a bicycle from Zimmerman's porch. Less than 3 weeks before the shooting roofers working in the neighborhood reported 2 black males lingering in the yard of a home that was burglarized.
"Let's talk about the elephant in the room. I'm black, OK?" an African-American neighbor of Zimmerman, who chose to have her name withheld due to concerns for her safety, told a reporter from Reuters. "There were black boys robbing houses in this neighborhood. That's why George was suspicious of Trayvon Martin."
George Zimmerman is the son of a retired Virginia magistrate, and a Peruvian immigrant. His maternal grandmother babysat African-American children, who took their meals and walked to school with the George and his siblings. In 2004, he partnered with an African-American friend and opened up an Allstate insurance satellite office.
The most important racial incident involving Zimmerman occurred in December of 2010. A homeless, African-American man was beaten by the Justin Collison, son of a Sanford police lieutenant. Collison reportedly boasted that he would not be punished because of his connections. Video of the attack was posted on YouTube, but no attempt was made to arrest or charge him. Despite being emailed a link to the video 3 days after the attack, then Police Chief Brian Tooley claimed not to have seen it until it was aired on the local news weeks later.
Team Trayvon (TM) would have you believe that George Zimmerman was a racist and a police brownnoser. What they don't want you to know is that in the wake of the revelation of the attack, Zimmerman was busy printing and distributing flyers calling for accountability on the part of the Sanford PD. An exerpt from that flyer follows:
Chief of Police Tooley blatantly lied. He attempted to appease the masses by stating that he was “blindsided” by the medias release of this monsters attack on an innocent, homeless and peacekeeping bystander.
It has already been revealed that Chief Tooley not only received an email petitioning his attention to the matter on behalf of the Seminole County Sheriffs Office, yet he was also provided with the video taped evidence of the attack and chose to do nothing but pass the buck in hope that the problem would simply go away.
Mr. Hargrett’s feeble attempt to patronize the public by stating that Lieutenant Collison’s son did not receive any preferential treatment is nothing short of irritating and belittles our intelligence. There are only two possible explanations, either Lieutenant Collison’s son received preferential treatment, or Sanford PD always neglects to handcuffs and does not arrest assailants of innocent victims, neither of the two are acceptable, so clearly you are a liar Mr. Hargrett.
I challenge you reading this to stand together and not “simply go away” as Chief Tooley and his corrupt subordinates wish, but to have our voices heard and to hold accountable those whom let this atrocious attack pass unpunished until the media revealed it. This animal could have attacked anyone of us, our children or loved ones in his alcohol fueled rage.
Zimmerman went on to slam the Sanford PD in a public meeting in January of 2011. "I would just like to
state that the law is written in black and white. It should not and
cannot be enforced in the gray for those that are in the thin blue
line," he said at the hearing.
"I'd like to know what action the commission intends on making in order
to repeal Mr. Tooley's pension. I'm not asking you to repeal his
pension. I believe that he's already forfeited his pension by his
illegal cover-up and corruption and what happened in his department."
Furthermore, he questioned the department's professionalism. "I also have had the opportunity to take ride-alongs with the city of
Sanford Police Department and what I saw was disgusting," Zimmerman said
at the time. "The officer showed me his favorite hiding spots for
taking naps. ... He took two lunch breaks and attended a going-away
party for one of his fellow officers."
The MSM has been reporting that Zimmerman may have gotten preferential treatment from the Sanford PD suggesting a chummy relationship between himself and officers in the department. I offer a different take. Prosecutors in the Martin case and the MSM have focused on a single report from the discovery materials released recently, a report which, as we have seen above, contains fabrications about Zimmerman's calls to the police, argues for manslaughter charges to be filed, and includes this bit of editorial comment which seems out of place in what is supposed to be a factual report, but has become the centerpiece of Team Trayvon (TM)'s view of the case: "The encounter between George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin was
ultimately avoidable by Zimmerman, if Zimmerman had remained in his
vehicle and awaited the arrival of law enforcement". Of course, this overlooks the fact that the shooting could also have been avoided had Trayvon Martin not chosen to commit felonious assault on Mr. Zimmerman.
Contrary to what the MSM would have you believe, it actually appears that the effort to railroad Zimmerman started with his supposed friends at the Sanford PD. And George Zimmerman certainly does not fit the profile of a racist, who would kill an innocent young black man "evincing a depraved mind showing no regard for human life".
